'Zoomorphisms' by Yuriy Zakordonets, abstract acrylic painting on a subject of transformation, change, re-birth, transition into a new state of mind and physical reality. It is a series of works that started as sketches, drawing on smaller paper pieces and then moved to bigger acrylic paintings on canvas. A concept of mutation and transformation has been an inspiring subject for many artists and writers and butterflies are the most known symbol of this process. Here, we can notice that the center, the body of the butterfly is formed by two human bodies getting new wings. Tribal elements and ornaments develop a link to ancient beliefs and philosophical views like re-incarnation. A sophisticated and intricate pattern, design of this work makes it so delicate and so exclusive (more often this style of work is executed as a drawing, not a painting).
Yuriy Zakordonets is a talented painter from Ukraine who in his abstract acrylic paintings combines a passion for art with a passion for healing.
His primary education was in Medical Science and he still works as a reputable M.D. in Odessa.
Yuriy Zakordonets has a very peculiar style. He has worked with different materials: wood, metal, and canvas—but also leather, which almost became his signature, like a “proof of origin” of his art. Ukraine is a country where farming is very well integrated into the economy. Many people have (or used to have) connections to rural life. And leather is somewhat a symbol of stability, original crafts, local business, hard work... His works include elements of cave paintings; lines are soft, human bodies are rather symbolic and tattooed and images are graphic. They remind us of ancient alphabets. The lines create a labyrinth, a maze where you can easily get lost… His work amazes us by its aesthetic as well as its power of traditional art. It is authentic and it has decorative magic.
His art career started in the early 1980s when he took part in various exhibitions dedicated to painting, graphics, and design as an artist, coordinator, and curator. Since then, over the years, Yuriy has successfully combined multiple art community leadership roles with his personal exhibitions which took place in Odessa (Ukraine), Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia), Chicago (US). His artworks are included in private collections in Europe, Australia, Asia, the US, and Africa.
